Pashimina Scarf Volunteer Program

Although the work that Tiny Hands Nepal does is charitable, and although we put every dollar (or rupee) to use as efficiently and directly as possible to help those who most need help and are most able to be helped, and although not a single penny of our profit will be used in any other way, we want to operate as a self-sustaining enterprise, rather than be dependant on charity. Tiny Hands Nepal is financed by our pashmina scarf volunteer program and through the donations of others.

Our volunteers sign up to sell a packet of ten high quality scarves (for $20 each), to friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, at church or on a local college campus (with permission, of course). You can sign up online here using your credit card. We have heavily encrypted the credit card information, so there is no need to worry about the security of your donation. Your credit card number will also be deleted from our database as soon as the transaction is run.

This is how the volunteer program works:

  1. Sign up to volunteer – On this website, just give your name, address, and contact information, and choose one of three payment options, to transfer the money to Tiny Hands Nepal.
  2. Receive your scarves in the mail – within a few weeks, you will receive a packet with everything you need to sell the scarves, including information about Tiny Hands Nepal, 20 brochures, and a free t-shirt.
  3. Sell them – You can sell them to friends, family, and acquaintances, on a college campus or at church (make sure you get permission first!), or any way you choose!
  4. Send the money to Tiny Hands Nepal – Depending on your payment option, after you sell the scarves you can just send the money here with a credit card on this website, by clicking on make a payment.

When our volunteers sell these scarves, we encourage them to try to find at least two more people who will agree to sign up on our websites as volunteers themselves. Being a Nepali organization, we have very little ability to market our products in the United States, and are thus dependant on our volunteers to make the program grow. We are desperately seeking to find those in need, and trust that God will move the hearts of our volunteers to help us change lives!

PASHMINA

Pashmina, which is the Persian name for Cashmere, is the softest and most luxurious wool in the world. Known for its warmth, long life, and softness, each fiber is around 15.5 microns thick (a human hair is 75 microns thick). Pashmina comes from the inner layer of wool on the neck and chest of the Himalayan mountain goat, Capra Hircus, which lives at high elevations, over 12,000 feet, in frigid temperatures. For that reason, it is considered the best insulation in the world. Each goat produces a very small amount of pashmina annually (maybe 3-8 ounces), and the wool used in these scarves is imported from Tibet and Inner Mongolia. The scarves are made in Nepal, and also contain high quality silk, which makes them stronger and more durable.
